About
Roam Telecoms

From a 2017 university prototype to an award-winning clean-tech leader. Here's how we got here — and where we're going.

Our Origins

Born from a Bold
University Project.

Roam Telecoms Ltd. was established in 2017 as a final-year university project at the University of Westminster. What started as a theoretical exploration of sustainable telecommunications quickly transformed into a working prototype — and then into a company.

Our working prototype entered the Big Ideas Competition (University of Westminster in Association with NACUE) and won first place, including a cash prize that gave us the resources to move from a student project into a serious commercial enterprise.

That early win validated our core belief: that sustainability and cutting-edge telecommunications technology are not in conflict — they are complementary. Since then, we've expanded our IP portfolio, forged international partnerships, and built the WEEE Roam initiative to tackle e-waste head-on.

How We Work

Our Philosophy

Three words define everything we do. They guide our product decisions, our partnerships, and our long-term vision for what responsible tech looks like.

♻️

Sustain

We build technologies and business models that are designed to last — environmentally, commercially, and socially.

🔄

Repurpose

We give electronics a second life — salvaging, testing, and redistributing components that would otherwise be wasted.

🌱

Recycle

What can't be repurposed is recycled responsibly — because zero waste is the only acceptable goal.

Collaborators

Global Partnerships

We have secured lifelong partnerships with some of the most amazing organisations, charities, companies, and international governments — partners who helped push our products through real-world use cases, into environments your average technological device would typically fail under considerable strain and usage.

Our Approach

Licensing Partner Principals

Our licensing programme is built on transparency, fairness, and mutual respect. We believe that great technology should be accessible — and that licences should be achievable without litigation.

  • We grant licences to any party seeking one under fair and reasonable terms and conditions.
  • Patents are only asserted after confirming validity and infringement through thorough due diligence.
  • We always identify ourselves transparently, regardless of subsidiary involvement.
  • We do not target everyday consumers — our licensing is directed at commercial and institutional parties.
  • We engage in good-faith negotiations at all stages, including during active litigation.
  • All licensing discussions are treated as strictly confidential by both parties.
